The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in employing replay systems.
Video review technology will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Players will gain the option to question certain decisions made by the chair umpire, following the system already in use at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This development comes just a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to review other situations, such as:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or person during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there is no cap on the number of reviews a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
A recent case occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined the player was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not exclusive to Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system in place at every one of its events.
Other Changes
Another change at The Championships this year involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been unsure if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
